The Riverside Walk To St Leon sur Vézère

Activities%20-%20St%20Leon%20Walk_edited

This is a lovely walk along the river to St Leon, our neighbouring village. Follow the signs to Castel Merle and when you get to the entry kiosk walk to the end of the car park you will see a fairly well defined footpath. This follows the river through the woods. It is an easy walk, with one or two ups and downs, but not suitable for pushchairs. It takes about 45 minutes depending on the ages of your group.

There are a couple of very relaxed cafes along the river in St Leon. Perfect for a reviving beer/coffee or a light lunch in the warmer months. Our favourite is the 'Dejeuner sur L'Herbe'.

Canoeing The Vézère River

Activities - Canoeing 2.jpg

You cannot visit this area of France without succumbing to the allure of its rivers. There isn't a better way of discovering how beautiful this area is, than drifting lazily past historic villages, magnificent chateaux, and countryside that was home to early man and remained unchanged for twenty thousands years. Canoes can be hired from many places from Montignac to Les Eyzies. The nearest starting point to us is Thonac, which is only two minutes away. The conoeing is one way (with the current), and you will be collected by minibus and returned to Thonac at the end of your adventure. We can recommend the trip from Thonac to Tursac, which takes about three hours, with lots to see en route.

Les 7 Rives:

Horse Riding At The Cavaliers de la Vézère

Activities - Horseriding 2.jpg

The stables are on the left hand side of the road to Montignac, just outside the village. Several family members and guests have been out for hacks with Valerie, who is co-owner of the stables, and have really enjoyed the experience. The routes vary but go into the woods as well as along the river, even into the river during summer months when the water is shallow. Valerie speaks good English.

Prices vary but a good 2 hour hack is about 38€. Half a day is 50€

If you want to enquire or book, it is usually best to phone and leave a message and they will call you back.
