L'Enclos Details
The Kitchen
The large modern kitchen and dining area is in the old “cave” or cellar of the house. Original features have been retained and stone walls left exposed to create a light characterful and spacious hub for the home. Glass double doors let in plenty of light and offer excellent views across the valley, and these open out onto a paved terrace directly overlooking the Vezere River. A section of the terrace to the left of the kitchen is covered, perfect for al fresco dining, barbecues, or just escaping the sun whilst soaking up the sounds of the river below. There is a smaller terrace on the east side of the house under a grape vine which is ideal for breakfast or morning coffee. The kitchen is fully fitted with a range oven, American fridge freezer with ice maker, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and dishwasher. The adjoining utility room has a washing machine, tumble drier and small extra fridge. Both tables, in the kitchen and outside under the covered terrace, can comfortably seat 10 people.
The Sitting Room
This is the heart of the house occupying the entire width of the ground floor. There are doors out to the garden on two sides and a staircase leading down to the kitchen and up to the top floor bedrooms. The room has two original fireplaces, one with a large woodburner for cosy winter evenings, a high beamed ceiling and exposed stone walls. The thick stone walls ensure it remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter so no matter when you visit, this room provides the perfect space for everyone to relax together. There is a 65” television with Netflix, UK and European channels.
Upper Floor Bedrooms
These two bedrooms sit under the old “lauze” stone roof of the house with sloping walls and original beamed ceilings. Each has a super king size (180cm) bed and ensuite shower room. The Lascaux room has two dormer windows with views over the garden and surrounding countryside. The Lauze room has a large picture window with fantastic views down to the river and across the valley.
Ground Floor Bedrooms
The African Room
This light and airy room opens off the sitting room through a low door next to the fireplace and looks out onto the old bakery. It has a king size bed (160cm) which can be separated into two singles. The ensuite shower room has a walk-in rain shower and beamed roof.
The Garden Room
This bedroom has direct access to the side garden through a glass door. It has a super king size bed. The spacious ensuite bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower and a double sink vanity unit. The exposed stone walls and large window overlooking the garden provide a sense of calm.
The River Room
Although smaller than the other bedrooms, there is still plenty of room for a super king size bed. There is a small ensuite shower room with a washbasin and vanity unit. The separate toilet is adjacent to the bedroom at the end of the hallway.
The Swimming Pool
The 9x5 metre private swimming pool is heated from the end of May to September. The walk in steps across the width of the shallow end make it child friendly whilst the surrounding pool area is beautifully landscaped with a spacious terrace and a small lawn for sunbathing. The whole pool area is fully secured by a high hedge and fence. Once you have had your dip in the pool, you can lie back on a sunbed and admire the views in all directions. Or sit in the shade of the palm tree and indulge in some holiday reading.
The Gardens
The extensive gardens wrap around the house, which is nestled between the Vezere River and the village of Sergeac. They have a variety of mature trees, raised vegetable beds and hidden corners for escaping with a book or a game of hide and seek with the children. There are swings and a slide for the little ones as well as table tennis, badminton and boule. You can of course, take the boule to the “Place” outside the gates if you want a change of scene whilst the village tennis court is a 50 metre walk away and free to use.
A short walk through the village takes you to the river “plage” or beach where you can access the river for a paddle or go fishing. River swimming is possible in high summer months when the current is not too strong, but beach shoes are advisable.
